Dining options

For a collection of tiny islands, there are a surprising number of excellent restaurants. Dining at the romantic Sugar Mill is out of this world and Foxy's Bar on the tiny island of Jost Van Dyke is legendary. The lavish resort hotels also offer a range of gastronomic options from cordon bleu to fresh seafood beach BBQs under the stars.

In this part of the West Indies, the local food is colourful and tasty with rotis, flying fish sandwiches, barbecued lobster to name a few...

The main islands....

With 60 tiny islands, holiday makers tend to base themselves on a couple of the main islands and use their time exploring the others by sail boat or on guided tours.

Tortola

Apart from powdery silky white sandy beaches, lush green mountainss and tropical climate, Tortola, the largest island and home to the BVI capital of Road Town, has an interesting history of swashbuckling pirates. These days, the sheltered natural harbour is packed with every kind of yacht imaginable.

Virgin Gorda

Virgin Gorda, the third largest island measuring just eight and a half square mile, entices travelers with its yacht clubs, quiet coves, safe anchorages and luxury villas and holiday resorts. On the North Sound and accessible only by water, the exclusive Bitter End Yacht Club offers a premier resort.

Necker Island

Sitting between Tortola and Anegada, the private Necker island is surrounded by the sparkling blue Caribbean sea of the British Virgin Islands and exudes the elegance and lifestyle of the rich and famous. This is the ultimate island getaway!

Anegada Island

Anegada or the “Drowned Land” by the Spanish, is the only coral island in the Virgin Islands and is surrounded by the third largest coral reef called the Horseshoe. The island is not really used as a base to stay but it is very popular as a day trip via ferry given its status as one of the top dive sites in the BVI.

Jost Van Dyke

Close to Tortola, this tiny island measuring just 4 by 3 miles was named after a Dutch pirate and is famous for its yacht parties on Halloween and New Year’s Eve held in the Great Harbour.

BVI Weather

The temperature ranges between 24 and 30 degrees throughout the year with the driest and most popular months being from January to April.

Between June and October, the low season, temperatures are higher and so is the rainfall and the humidity with the tropical stroms - hurricanes rarely have a direct hit on the BVI. When the tropical storms do occur, they typically last for a short while and then followed by bright sunshine.
