Commons Beach is Tahoe City's four acre public park on the lake, popular for sunbathing, swimming, and picnicking. Group picnic sites and children's playgrounds are located within a large lakefront grass and sand area. Bike and watercraft rentals are available within walking distance of the beach.
During the ski season, you are just 15 minutes from Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, two of the premier Tahoe ski areas. A single lift ticket provides access to both resorts, and the Squaw/Alpine Express offers between mountain transportation every 20-30 minutes.

5/5 An ideal vacation home for large group of skiers/ boarders
We had a great time. Snow conditions weren't top notch this year so we spent a lot of time at the house... it's a great place for a large group to gather and enjoy each other's company. The common areas are spacious and with 9 people in our group we had more than ample room. Thanks for a great vacation! The hot tub was dirty when we got there but they came out and fixed it the next day. The lake view from the deck is amazing!
5/5 Very confortable, spacious and clean...
I just came back from a week vacation on Lake Tahoe and Pioneer Retreat did the job flawlessly. The house is big enough for 12 people, it's well equipped and it was spotless, like really-really clean, no dust and the Jacuzzi and BBQ are a big plus.
The property administrators (Tahoe Gateways) did an excellent job sending information about restaurants, transportation and general rules regarding the house. I've been renting homes for vacation purposes for more than 15 years in Miami, Atlanta, Orlando, L.A., Big Bear and San Diego and this was, by far, the best experience. Hope to visit Tahoe again... and soon.
Only 3 cons (livable):
1. Looks like it's time to replace the towels
2. The water heater is a bit small for 12 people, expect to run out of hot water if some of your travel mates take long showers
3. The internet is as slow as the slowest internet café, even the speed on a Mcdonalds is faster
4/5 Fine location with excellent amenities
There were 6 of us in the house which is well-appointed. The location is on Pioneer Way and has a view of Tahoe through the trees. This street has a combination of old and new homes and Tahoe City is literally down the hill. A perfect week-end get-away and everyone enjoyed the hot tub.
This home is perfect ,the rooms are cute like walking thru a doll house I defiantly will be back
5/5 perfect gate away
Service, home, location, couldn't be any better. It's fantastic for a trip for families and friends
5/5 Perfect Home for Family Reunion
Gorgeous lake view from the deck, hot tub, two of the upstairs bedrooms and dining room. Quality outdoor furniture, living room and dining furniture. Very comfortable beds with soft and warm linens. Kitchen well stocked for large family or group gatherings. Perfect areas inside and out for intimate visits or larger group discussions.
Perfect location above Tahoe City, which has e Rey amenity available.
Rental agency located in the center of town (bottom of hill from house). They answered all questions during initial rental process and at check in. They sent a maintenance person to check on a minor issue on Sunday. Their only concern was our comfort. I never felt like I was bothering them or inconveniencing them. Besides calling them twice on that Sunday, I also stopped by the office to inquire about extending the rental.
Pioneer Retreat fit all of our needs!
5/5 so sweet
great pad - ideal spot in tahoe city, private, awesome lake view. nicely furnished, spacious enough for eight adults. we really had no complaints - and i've rented a ton of homes throughout the west. for the money, this is probably the spot you want to be in.
4/5 A very good weekend in Tahoe
The House is very conveniente for skiing , bikiing or hiking in Tahoe
We had great Time enjoying the nature and the lake
The house is good for 10 persons with a lot of thing for cooking or playing
4/5 Pioneer Retreat
I had a good time. the house is good size for two medium sized families. It only has two Tv's in the whole house.
4/5 Great Cabin
Very nice lobby, there are a lot of xbox games!
The master room is awesome!
But when we needed help and called on the emergency phone number many times, nobody answered and always "please leave your message"...
5/5 great gateaway in a wonderful and peacful setting
We had a great time and the property was better thean expected. I highly recommended it and we will come back.
4/5 Nice Place
Everything was as expected and advertised. Great location, nice 4 bedroom house with hot tub. The shower on the first floor was poorly constructed leaking water onto the floor.
4/5 Convenient location
The house is an easy walk to Tahoe City (except for my elderly Mom), yet you don't see town from the house. It has a nice view of the lake and very good amenities. Although rated for 12 people, the sleeping arrangements were somewhat tight for our family of 10. I would definitely rent it again-ideal for 4 couples.
Layout of the home not smooth flooling.
Down stairs bedroom windows do not open to get cool air when room is hot.
wierless internet did not work.
This our 3rd stay with you and least safisfactory.
Next time will pay more for a better home.
5/5 Perfect location
We enjoyed our stay here very much. The location was great - a 10 minute walk into the center of Tahoe City, good exercise walking back up the hill to the house. The house was roomy, comfortable and fairly well equipped. When we had a problem with the bar-b-cue it was taken care of very quickly. The only other problem was that someone had changed the settings on the refrigerator and a lot of our food had frozen before we realized there was a problem. In spite of this we hope to return again next year
We hope to return here again next year.
Great house; very roomy and comfortable
Loved the deck and view. Would definetly come back.
Wonderful house with all the amenities. Beautiful views
4/5 Great time.
House is great, just a little tricky getting up and down the hill since we got over 4' of snow during the week we were in Tahoe. All around great house at a great price.
4/5 Snowbound with Lake Tahoe Vistas
Great location up the hill from our favorite, Tahoe City.
Views of the Lake and distant peaks from almost every window.
Warm and cozy inside with lots of high-tech gizmos.
Parking next to the front door, and no steps.
Hottub, awesome deck, large family dinner table and all the amenities to make the stay complete.
