Velden is described as the Monte Carlo of Austria - a vibrant town with lots of bars, restaurants and casino. One of the highlights of staying on Lake Wörthersee is the amazing music and light show each Wednesday (rock & pop) and Friday (classical) held over the bay of Velden.
Reifnitz is a quiet hamlet just 2 minutes away from Maria Worth - a fascinating town famed for it's luxury spas whilst Portschach sits on a peninsula jutting out in to the lake and is one of the favourite places to stay on lLake Wörthersee.
Things to see and do
The Carinthian province of Austria is teeming with historic villages, museums and gardens plus there are some superb excursions ranging from a morning trip to several days.

- Klagenfurt is Austria's sixth largest city and is full of museums, stately homes and castles on its outskirts
- Only 5 minutes from Velden is Rosegg Animal Park - home to 400 animals and 35 species and a great day out for the whole family
- Tour the Burg Hochosterwitz castle built around 1570
- Explore Maria Worth which is home to the Marienkirche, a medieval gothic-style church and is the most photographed building in Austria
- Take the funicular up to 2200m on the Reißeck Bergbahnen for stunning views of the lakes & mountains
- Visit the stunning Lake Bled in Slovenia just over the border. This is one of the prettiest lakes in Slovenia surrounded by the Julian mountains with some superb hiking trails

If you are visiting Lake Worthersee during the winter, you can always go skiing in one of the many local ski resorts or make the short trip over the border in to Slovenia to the beautiful family friendly resorts of Kranjska Gora or Vogel.
