Waikoloa Mini Guide Vacation Rentals, Nightlife, Beaches, Activities, Things To See & Do

Waikoloa village sits on the sunny Kohala coast on the leeward side of the Hualalai Volcano and just 25 miles north of Kona. Built on the lava fields left after the last eruption of the now dormant Mauna Kea, Waikoloa beach resort is a very popular holiday destination on Big Island Hawaii.

This historic and lively resort offers an unforgettable vacation and is the perfect place for a family holiday, an escape with friends, or a romantic getaway with glorious beaches and plenty to see and do.

As a vacation hot spot, Waikoloa is also home to some gorgeous beach front property where you can rent a villa or condo knowing that all the local amenities, including a golf course, are on your doorstep.

Once the headquarters of the Parker ranch, Waikoloa is now a bustling seaside holiday destination where you will find an abundance of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants and in the town around Queen's Marketplace and Kings' Shops.

As the sun sets, the best place to experience authentic Hawaiian nightlife is to make camp at one of the beach clubs such as Lava Lava looking out on to Anaeho‘omalu Bay and listen to live music, watch the hula dancers and dine under the stars.

Waikoloa Beaches

The main beach is Anaeho‘omalu Bay ("A-Bay"), a 20 minute walk from the resort, best known for its sunsets and royal fish ponds that date back to King Kamehameha. The beach is surrounded by a coconut grove of swaying palms and cool shade and has excellent facilities including showers, restrooms and picnic area.

For watersports, there is windsurfing, boogie board, snorkel, sailing and even a glass bottom boat to look at the coral and tropical fish including turtles.

In the Waikoloa resort itself, there are stunning beaches flanking the various man made lagoons, such as Lagoon Beach at the Hilton, swimming pools and canals where you can jump on a small boat and cruise around the village.
