Bolquère Pyrénées 2000 ski resort guide - reviews Ski area, apres-ski, things to see & do in Font Romeu

Bolquère Pyrénées 2000 review

The village of Bolquère is perched at 2000m in the eastern French Pyrenees and just 10km from the Spanish border. It is known as being the sunniest ski resort in France with an average of 3000 hours of sunshine a year!

The resort is linked to Font Romeu, the neighbouring resort and together, they provide 43 pistes for all abilities, and for beginners, it's possible to ski from the top of the mountain all the way to the village on a green run.

Après-ski

The village comes to life as skiers return from the slopes, with many shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. A popular option is the wellness & thermal spa in the village to relax and unwind before a night out in the town which also boasts a casino.

Being close to the Spanish border means the village is a melting pot of Iberian and south-western French cultures which make the evenings very lively.

Beginners

First time skiers are in for a treat as Font Romeu has many green and blue pistes on the top sections of the mountain meaning you can enjoy the panoramic views and mountain restaurants without being confined to the beginner areas typically found at the base stations.

There is also 20 acres dedicated to beginners with a magic carpet, baby lifts and themed trails for children.

Intermediate

With 18 pistes graded blue and red, intermediate skiers can cruise around the entire ski area where you can find some excellent trails through the lower forests.

Advanced

The majority of the terrain caters for beginners and intermediate skiers although there are 9 black pistes. However, these are more like difficult reds and quite short and so not particularly challenging for experts. However, the ski touring possibilities are very good and local guides may be booked at the ski schools.

Our view on Bolquère Pyrénées 2000

Outside of France and Catalan territory, Bolquère Pyrénées 2000 is off the grid for most skiers and boarders which means there is definitely that authentic and traditional village feel. With pristine pistes and first class family services and facilities, Pyrénées 2000 is a refreshing change to the mass tourist resorts around Haute Savoie and the Tarentaise valley. For hassle free skiing, Pyrénées 2000 is a good option.
