Saint Francois Longchamp overview
The family friendly resort of Saint Francois Longchamp sits at an altitude of 1200m in the Grand Domaine ski area at the northern end of the Maurenne Valey on the border of the Tarentaise. It's a charming pedestrianised village that has kept the alpine traditions whereby all the buildings are constructed from stone and wood - you won't find any high rise concrete buildings common in purpose built ski resorts.

Saint Francois Longchamp ski area guide
The ski area immediately around Saint Francois Longchamp is a mecca for beginners and intermediates with wide gentle pistes on north and south facing slopes. If thats not enough, you can buy the Grand Domaine lift pass that covers the lift linked resorts of Doucy Combelouvière, Celliers, and Valmorel. The whole ski area provides 165kms of linked pistes served by 49 lifts giving 103 slopes to explore with an additional 20,000 hectares of terrain for ski touring .
Beginners
Beginners and children are very well catered for with 6 beginner areas and 24 green pistes. Beginner lessons provided by the ESF ski school typically start at the Baby 1650 Lift situated in the resort centre below the toboggan run.
Intermediate
If you’re looking for wide, motorway pistes that aren’t too taxing you’ll love Saint Francois Longchamp and the Grand Domaine ski area. There are 49 blue pistes and 21 red pistes in the Grand Domaine taking you from Saint Francois Longchamps to Valmorel over the Col de la Madeleine.
Advanced
For the most experienced skiers and boarders, the 8 black pistes and off-piste ski areas will certainly provide a challenge. The Cheval Noir (2832m) and the Lauzière massif are within reach for ski touring via the Lauzière chairlift.
Cross-Country
There are 20kms of groomed cross-country trails around Saint Francois Longchamp. The valley is also the gateway to the Grand Domaine ski area where there are incredibly beautiful trails that wind through the pine forests.

As well as being a fantastic family friendly ski resort, Saint Francois Longchamp will be whatever you want it to be. If you like quaint, relaxing alpine villages then Saint Francois Longchamp ticks all the boxes. If you want to literally ski right to your front door there's plenty of that too. The resort by itself is small but when you add in all the villages around the Grand Domaines, you'll find yourself in the 5th largest ski area in Savoie.
