Ski resorts in Scotland
Skiing & snowboarding across the Scottish Highlands
Scotland has 5 ski resorts including the popular ski areas of the Caringorms and Ben Nevis. Glenshee is the largest ski resort in Scotland and is located at the entrance to the Cairngorms National Park just north of Perth. It has 22 lifts servicing 40kms of pistes which cater for all levels from absolute beginners to experts with plenty of ski touring opportunities.
Cairngorm Mountain is the second largest ski resort in Scotland with 30kms of pistes but is the most popular due to its proximity (9 miles) to Aviemore, the outdoor capital of the Highlands.
The other ski resorts of The Lecht, Glencoe and the Nevis Range offer a smaller number of pistes but are still excellent ski resorts to try especially when the snow conditions are good. The Nevis range has 35kms of pistes and offers extensive ski touring opportunities whilst Glencoe has the steepest and longest runs in Scotland. The Lecht is much quieter than the other ski resorts and is ideal for families and beginners with plenty of green pistes and hardly ever any lift queues.
The best snow conditions are typically in January and February. However, this is Scotland and you can have snow at any time from November up until early June at higher levels - the weather is that unpredictable.
