The nearest international airport is Sion which is in the heart of Valais. Sion is largely served by regional airlines but is getting more popular with carrriers as it means transfers to most of Valais's 52 ski resorts are under an hour.

By car
From within Switzerland, pick up the A9 motorway that runs from Lausanne taking you along the side of Lake Geneva. Depending on where you are visiting in Valais, once you reach Martigny, you can be at most of the ski resorts in under an hour. The northern canton resorts such as Zermatt and those on the Aletsch glacier will take around 90 minutes.
