Aurach ski resort guideSki area, apres-ski, things to see & do around Aurach
Overview
Aurach ski resort sits within the Kitzbühel ski area with 168km of local terrain and is ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers and snowboarders with a focus on family skiing.
Each January, over 80,000 ski-racing fans pack Kitzbühel to watch the world’s best skiers tackle what is largely considered the hairiest and most prestigious downhill race on the World Cup circuit.
When the race is over, ride the Hahnenkamm gondola, which features the names of all past winners and if you can handle steep and fast terrain, then test your skills on the Streif.
This is the famous downhill course - a mind numbing 3km-long piste that outwits some of the professionals!!!
Wellness & spa
Quite a few options in this department starting with the Acquarena in the town center with pools, saunas and steam rooms. For upmarket pampering, you can try the large 2-floor spa and treatment room retreat at Weisses Robl's.
Children
There are several day care centers and ski kindergarten clubs for your children starting from the age of 3.

Beginners
The local skiing in Kitzbühel gives you plenty of gentle beginner areas and blue pistes.
Intermediate
The whole local ski area is geared towards intermediate skiers and if you like touring, Kitzbühel is heaven!!
Advanced
For the advanced skier, the downhill course is a must. Known as the Streif, this is one of the scariest runs around and not to be attempted at speed unless you are a professional!! The off-piste is extensive with many routes to choose from and as always, best explored with a guide.
Snowboard
For snowboarders, there are 4 major parks featuring rainbow boxes, moguls hills, easy kickers, straight boxes and more.
Cross country
The Kitzbühel Region offers 120km of cross-country ski trails that cater for everyone, from occasional skiers to pros. These trails also link into a vast network of connected trails in the surrounding valleys giving a total of 460km to explore!
Things to see & do
If you don't fancy skiing or the weather is not that great, then there are plenty of other activities to keep you occupied...
- 170km of winter walking and snow shoeing trails
- In-door swimming pool
- Night skiing
- Tobogganing
- Parapenting
Après-ski
For an international all year round resort, Kitzbuhel does not disappoint. Kitzbühel itself is more about cocktails and nightclubs but there are some excellent après-ski bars. A good starting point being the Londoner pub in Kirchberg where people ski to after a day on the slopes and get stuck in to pints of Gösser.
For a dinner with a difference, you can book a table at the Bichlalm mountain hut and then ski back down!
Featured ski chalets
Aurach is a beautiful village with around 2000 residents and most of the accommodation including the ski chalet rentals and apartments are within short walking distance of the town center where you can find all the cafes, bars, restaurants and shops.

Ski holidays in Kitzbühel are tailor made for any level of skier and snowboarder but particularly for beginners and intermediates.
Ironically, most of the visitors to Kitzbühel during the winter are there for the shopping, spas and restaurants leaving the pistes relatively uncrowded meaning you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to beat the queues for the lifts.
