La Thuile ski touring with a mountain guide

Combe Varin
This is a relatively easy ski tour which starts at a small village just past La Thuile called Pont Serrand which sits at 1609m. From the village, you use skins to climb up to Combe Varin at 2620m. From there, it's deep powder all the way doen the south facing slopes back to La Thuile. The best time to do this ski tour is in February and March when the snow conditions are optimal. There are some steep stretches on the upper part of the route but they are not obligatory and your ski instructor will assess whether you have the technical capabilities to ski these sections.

The Espace San Bernardo ski area covering the resorts of La Thuile and La Rosière provides countless opportunities for off-piste ski touring when accompanied by a qualified mountain guide or instructor who knows the local mountain trails. One itinerary to try is the Les Suches-Belvedere which is in the La Thuile area. The descent ski tour takes around 4 and a half hours from start to finish with the descent covering just under 7 kms.
