Saalfelden is a traditional small Austrian town with short transfer times from Salzburg. It is superb for families with a full range of children's activities in summer and winter.
The ski area is accessed by the small village of Leogang a few kms away that links in to the ski resorts of Saalbach and Hinterglemm giving a massive 200km of piste to explore.
Most of the skiing in Leogang is geared towards beginners, families and and intermediate skiers although there is some challenging terrian down from the top of the main lift

Staying in Saalfelden means you have all the amenities on your doorstep from cosy cafes, bars and restaurants. You will need to get the ski bus to the slopes. The accommodation in Leogand is the complete opposite - a handful of local amenities but right next to the main lift.
