By plane

If you are flying, there are many airports to choose from in either France or Italy although most of the frequent budget carrier flights operate to Lyon, Grenoble and Turin. Surprisingly, the closest airport is Marseille with a journey time of just under 3 hours. From the airports, you can hire a car or book an airport transfer.

By car

• From Marseille: take the A51 motorway to Gap/Tallard, then follow signs for Embrun-Guillestre-Vars
• From Paris: take the A6 motorway tos Lyon, then the A43 motorway to Grenoble, then follow signs for Briançon via the Lautaret pass or Gap via the Bayard Pass, then head towards Embrun-Guillestre-Vars
• From Turin: head for the border at Montgenèvre then follow signs to Briançon - Guillestre - Vars

By train

• Montdauphin Guillestre station (18 km from Vars)
• Paris/Briançon, direct trains and motorail trains
• Paris/Valence or Paris/Grenoble, high-speed train (TGV) connections, daily connections
