How to get to Bohinj

By plane

Lake Bohinj is just 26km furher than Lake Bled with an airport transfer from Ljubljana taking around 1 hour. This means if you are going for a long weekend ski holiday in Lake Bohinj, you can be on the slopes the same day you fly.

By car

If you are driving from Klagenfurt airport in Austria, there are a couple of things to bear in mind...

  • There are motorway tolls in Austria. Anyone caught without a valid ‘Vignette’ will have to pay a hefty fine. ‘Vignettes’ are available from kiosks and service stations (also in bordering countries). They are valid for 10 days, 2 months or for a full year.
  • In winter, appropriate equipment is required, and depending on the weather, you will need to know how to use snow chains

Arriving at Triest, follow the directions on the motorway to Ljubljana and from there, it is just 62km to Lake Bohinj via Lake Bled.

By train

The main line runs right through to Lake Bohinj via Bled.
