Skiing around the 100kms of pistes and forest trails of the three ski areas of Saint Lary is mainly geared towards beginners and intermediate skiers and boarders with long cruising green and blues trails.

One look at the Saint Lary piste map shows just 10 black pistes so on the face of it, there is not much to challenge expert skiers. However, the ski area provides some excellent back-country off piste skiing where you can explore pristine natural beauty on guided 1 to 2 day ski tours using skins.

Back-Country ski tours

The Pyrenees is home to some classic off-piste ski tours where you will use skins to access some of the most beautiful powder trails around.

One of the most popular ski tours from Saint Lary is the 2 day tour to the ski resort of Barèges-La Mongie. The ski tour takes you via the Lac d’Oule reservoir and from there, its a 2 hour climb using skins to the Col des Bareges. From here, the route takes you to Col des Madamette followed by a superb powder descent to Bareges via the Escoubous dam - this is where your piste map can start to be used again. You can stay overnight in Bereges and return to Saint Lary via the Néouvielle Nature Reserve.
