Heli-Skiing & Snowcat Skiing
Within the boundaries of Telluride, there are some excellent stashes of powder and long itineraries away from the lift system and the best way to explore these areas is via the Snowcats that can be booked with one of the local operators.
One of the many delights of Telluride is the heli-skiing. The San Juan Mountains of Telluride offer the highest heli-skiing terrain in North America. April is the best and safest month to try this out (and you do not have to be an expert) as the snowpack is less likely to shift and therefore, you get to ride the highest peaks.
