Kappl ski resort guide Ski area, apres-ski, things to see & do in Kappl

Resort review

Ski holidays in Kappl - this idyllic village sits in the south-west Tyrol on the sunny side of the Paznaun Valley surrounded by the Verwall, Samnaun and Silvretta mountain ranges with their 3000m peaks and glaciers.

Kappl is a very family orientated ski resort with the focus on quality not quantity. Whilst a tiny ski resort, it is full of charm, character and very welcoming to all it's guests.

Après-ski

Kappl does not offer a great deal of après-ski in terms of trendy bars and nightclubs.

If this is what you are looking for on your skiing holiday, we suggest staying in Ischgl which has a reputation for being one of the livliest ski resorts in the Alps and famous for its opening and closing open air concerts.

Kappl does offer several good local cafes, bars and family restauants where you can relax and watch the world go by.

This ski resort offers a variety of winter sports activities including skiing, ski touring, ski safaris, ski hiking, snowboarding and cross country ski trails. It is a good resort for families and has the Sunny Mountain Erlebnispark - an adventure park for young children where they can experience being in the snow and learn to ski from an early age. off-piste skiing in kappl

Beginners

For complete beginners, you couldnt ask for anywhere better to learn this fantastic sport. The gentle beginner area at the base of the main lift is where you will spend your first few days before heading up the mountain to sample the blues.

Intermediate

For intermediates, there are 10 red pistes including the Lattenabfahrt, which is a massive 8 km long and starts from the top lift - Alblittkopfbahn at 2644m with over 1000m of vertical.

After a few days, you may want to explore the 238km of pistes at Ischgl which gives some fantastic touring options. Ischgl is just a 15 minute bus ride away

Advanced

Not the best place to find the most challenging terrain and there is limited off-piste. Advanced skiers and boarders typically head to Ischgl which is 10 minutes by bus and equipped with 238km of pistes.

For those who like touring, there are some fantastic guided routes where you can stay overnight in one of the mountain huts. A popular tour is up to the Jamtal glacier at 3000m.

Our view on Kappl ski resort

Kappl is a great alternative ski resort to mainstream Ischgl and more suited for family ski holidays or those wanting a more relaxed village experience.

  • If you find the accommodation in Kappl to be fully booked for your chosen date, then a good alternative is Galtür a few minutes away by car
  • The glacial hike up to 3000m is a great day out and is not as strenuous as it sounds!
  • Definitely worth skiing is the long picturesque Alp Tida run in to the Swiss resort of Samnaun (included in the lift pass) where you can get a cracking lunch and some duty free shopping although the savings are not that great as the prices are high to start with!!

If you like skiing in Kappl, you may also want to look at Fugen in the Ziller Valley and Pinzolo in the Val di Sole - Brenta Dolomites.
